Description: The Custodian provides students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place to work, learn, play and develop.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required
- Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Prior custodial experience is preferred
- Ability to do routine manual work in cleaning and providing maintenance of buildings and grounds
- Physical condition necessary to bend, stoop, stand and lift at least 75 pounds
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with staff, students, parents, etc.
- Prioritize work, take initiative, adhere to time restraints and attend to multiple tasks concurrently
- Must be an energetic, highly ethical, and possess good emotional and physical health
- Bilingual is desired
Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Governing Board or the Superintendent may deem appropriate
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Keep building and premises including classrooms, restrooms, sidewalks, driveways, play areas neat, clean and free from rubbish and weeds at all times
- Sweep/Vacuum classrooms, dust furniture, clean markerboards and clean sinks in classrooms
- Clean corridors after school each day and during the day when necessary
- Scrub, wet mop bathroom floors and disinfect toilets daily
- Clean all drinking fountains and sanitary fixtures daily
- Monitor and clean all restrooms and drinking fountains on a scheduled basis throughout the day
- Wash all windows inside and outside at least twice each year and more frequently if necessary
- Remain on school premises during school hours and during non-school hours as requested
- Ensure all exit doors are open and all panic hardware is working properly during building occupancy
- Secure all doors and windows before leaving each day
- Inform head custodian of needed supplies and replacement equipment in a timely manner
- Move furniture, set up chairs/tables/desks or equipment as required for various activities
- Deposit all trash in trash bins and empty trash receptacles as scheduled and/or needed
- Report safety hazards and need for repairs to head custodian
- Maintain security of buildings and grounds as assigned
- Maintain clean grounds by picking up outside trash when necessary
- Participate in district sponsored professional development workshops/inservices, attend on-going training classes as directed, and read professional publications for continued professional development
- Maintain strict confidentiality and use appropriate discretion when working with all district personnel, and student and family records and/or information
- Support and follow the rules, regulations and policies set by the School Board, the assigned school and the District
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the School Board, the Principal and the Head Custodian
Length of Employment:
- Nine (9) months
- School calendar will determine the days worked during the school year.
