Range:                   II

 

Description:           The Groundskeeper performs duties related to the care, maintenance and establishment of lawns, trees, ornamentals, parking lots, sprinkler systems and grounds equipment. 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License
  • Proficient in the use of grounds tools and equipment
  • Ability to work under adverse weather conditions
  • 40 hour week could include Saturday and/or Sunday
  • Ability to work with plants and tolerate pesticides exposure
  • Ability to kneel, pull, twist, bend, climb, etc., and lift/carry up to 100 pounds
  • Ability to comprehend and perform functions from written and oral instructions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with others
  • Must be an energetic, highly ethical and possess good emotional and physical health
  • Prior work experience is preferred

 

Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Governing Board or the Superintendent may deem appropriate

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Work with grounds keeping crews in the maintenance and establishment of lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers and ornamentals at school sites, district office and district properties
  • Exhibit patience, courtesy and tact when dealing with others
  • Irrigate/water and fertilize trees, shrubs, ornamentals, flowers and lawns as needed
  • Assist with clean-up after events
  • Rake leaves, mow lawns and fields, prune shrubs, flowers and ornamentals
  • Remove all debris from walk ways
  • Inspect grounds for hazardous or unsafe conditions
  • Perform maintenance and repair of sports fields
  • Frequently check moisture conditions at school sites, district office and district properties
  • Repair sprinklers, irrigation systems, drip system emitters and non-pressurized pipin
  • Remove vegetation around sprinklers and valve boxes
  • Operate vehicles and equipment used for grounds work
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repair on grounds equipment as needed
  • Participate in district sponsored professional development workshops/inservices, attend on-going training classes as directed, and read professional publications for continued professional development
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and use appropriate discretion when working with all district personnel records and/or information
  • Support and follow the rules, regulations and policies set by the School Board and the District
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the School Board, the Head Groundskeeper or his/her designee

 

Length of Employment

 

  • Twelve (12) months

 

Reports to:             Head Groundskeeper

 

Evaluation:             Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy GDO
