Qualifications

1.       Requirement - High School Diploma or GED, A.A. degree preferred

2.       Food Handlers / Servsafe Certification by NRA

3.       Computer literacy; Outlook e-mail, Word & Excel proficiency at minimum

4.       Previous supervisory experience preferred

5.       Two years previous experience in a school food-service setting

6.       Ability to perform physical aspects of the position as described below

7.       Ability to stoop, bend and lift and carry 35 lbs. on a regular basis

8.       Ability to stand for duration of work shift

9.       The ability to problem solve and handle confrontation and conflict resolution in a professional and productive manner.

 

Function

Position Summary: The primary responsibility of the position is to oversee the kitchen staff in the preparation, service and clean up after daily meals which are primarily served in the school cafeteria.   This includes ordering, handling inventory, menu planning and the ability to read and follow through with all relevant instructions both written and verbal.   The manager oversees all supervisory aspects of the kitchen staff including scheduling, training, evaluating and providing ongoing feedback to staff members and following cash handling & reconciliation procedures in accordance with district policies and procedures. The Cafeteria Manager will be required to work in a standing position for 8 hour shifts.   The position reports to the Food Service Program Director as well as to the site administrators.  

 

Primary Duties and RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Set up and clean up including but not limited to: folding cafeteria tables, using physical strength to move tables and salad bar station, sweeping, mopping cleaning counters and food prep areas, wiping down/sanitizing tables, chairs and other surfaces, washing dishes as well as pots, pans & all serving trays, prep tools, and serving utensils after daily use, taking out trash, loading and unloading dishes in washer and storage areas and sweeping/mopping of floors. Meal Preparation includes: appropriately storing food, appropriately pulling food reserves, dating products according to directions, pulling needed items from storage areas, carrying trays, containers and equipment from storage to work areas; cooking, baking, following written recipes, ability to perform basic math functions and use basic tools for measuring ingredients, timing meals, and assessing appropriate cooking temperatures, and following recipes as well as implement all relevant policies and regulations.

·         Successfully working as part of a team necessitates basic organizational skills such as: ability to file, store and retrieve information in a hard copy as well as on an electronic file, ability to follow step by step directions, sort, alphabetize, note-take, prioritize tasks and follow through on assignments as requested, take inventory, complete requisitions, complete menu projections, log and track information as needed, complete reports and place orders in a timely manner.

·         Communication skills: Ability to read and write at a level sufficient to read and follow written directions, leave written notes as needed, ability to understand and ask questions of supervisors and colleagues, ability to comprehend and carryout verbal instructions; Following verbal and or written directions as given by Director/District administrators, complete and submit needed reports, logs and relevant documents.   Daily interactions are required with colleagues, supervisory personnel, students, parents, staff and school administrators.  

·         Use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, policies and health department mandates. Follow and implement policies as related to personal hygiene and uniform care. Participate in required professional development and engage in training colleagues and subordinates as requested.

Reports to:                  Food Service Director and site administrators.
